SUMMARY:Le Phonographique aka The Phono (World Goth Day Special)
DESCRIPTION:Le Phonographique – better known as The Phono – was a dark and Dingy nightclub now buried in the bowels  beneath the Merrion Centre in Leeds. Opening in 1979\, it is widely regarded as the world’s first gothic nightclub\, beating London’s Batcave to the punch by three years. \nThe club became a regular haunt for bands such as The Sisters of Mercy\, The Mission and The March Violets\, and in May 1985 it even played host to an official Clash gig at the club  Phono became a safe haven for punks\, goths\, weirdos freaks and misfits could belong without judgement. \nIn 1981\, The Phono introduced its now-legendary Saturday afternoon drinking sessions\, a tradition which carries on today! To honour this\, Hifi Club Leeds will be open from 1pm to 6pm\, serving up a soundtrack of punk\, post-punk\, new wave\, goth\, grunge\, alternative rock\, alongside the ultimate dancefloor anthems of the 20th century. Although the original club closed its doors in 2006\, the spirit of The Phono refused to die. In 2008\, former owners and DJs reunited to keep the legacy alive. \nWith original Le Phonographique DJs behind the decks\, this promises to be one of the most genuine retro alternative music events you’ll ever experience. \nPhono events draw a unique crowd – from original goths\, punks and long-time Phono-ites\, to a new generation of alternative youth eager to experience what The Phono was truly like. \nWe hope you’ll join us for an afternoon packed with music\, memories\, and mischief. DESCRIPTION:Support comes from Paul Thorne\, Kent Cameron & Barry Dodds\n\n  \nEstablished in 2001 and featuring four stand up comedians\, the HiFi’s Comedy Club is Leeds’ finest independent Stand-Up Comedy event and has been the launch pad for so many Stand-Up comedians over the years with the likes of Alan Carr\, Paul Sinha\, John Bishop\, Katherine Ryan\, Reginald D Hunter\, Tom Stade\, Jason Manford\, Jon Richardson\, Sarah Millican\, Daliso Chaponda\, Russell Howard & Chris Ramsey all calling the venue home during the early days of their careers. \nDoors: 5.30pm until 9pm-ish with the first comedian onstage approximately 6.45pm. We request all ticket holders arrive at the venue no later than 6.15pm to facilitate us getting you seated and served in good time before the first act takes to the stage. Any arrivals after 6.45pm may unfortunately have to wait until the next available interval to be allowed into the venue. \n  \n\n  \nTickets are sold for the Comedy Night as an event and not for individual comedians. Line-ups are subject to change. All acts are confirmed at time of booking. Occasionally\, acts may be replaced for reasons beyond our control. If this happens the act will be replaced with a suitable alternative. We do our best to keep the listings (on our calendar page) as up to date as feasibly possible with the current situation. Taylor & Darius Davies/strong> \nHaving consistently sold out shows in London for the past 5 years\, Comedy Unleashed brings more of its refreshing brand of stand-up comedy to The HiFi Club in Leeds. \nComedy Unleashed nights showcase comedians who have a spirit of exploration\, are counter-cultural and eschew the bland and predictable. And\, if a comedian gets cancelled\, we like to put them on. The audience should be the only judge and if something is funny. \nAlistair Williams\nAlistair won Comedian of the Year 2023 – as voted by a live audience\, not comedy industry wonks. Despite this\, Alistair is excluded from many comedy clubs and banned from YouTube\, Alistair Williams is utterly counter-cultural and bloody hilarious. \nFrancis Foster\nFrancis is the co-host of popular YouTube and podcast TRIGGERNomentry. He’s a top stand-up comic too. \nKelli! Taylor\nKelly is a celebrity hairdresser from Hull. She lives\, laughs\, and loves. \nDarius Davies\nDarius cut his teeth in the comedy clubs of New York city. Due to “visa irregularities” Darius soon found himself back\, and uncelebrated in London. He’s a distinct voice in a sea of ubiquity and fearless in his belief in what is funny and forging his own path. High energy\, captivating and fuelled with passion\, soul and wit. \nDoors: 6:30pm until 10:00pm with the first comedian onstage at 7:30pm. Please arrive at the venue by 7:00pm so you can get a drink and get sat down before the first act.
